If you have been injured or assault as a result of criminal act, you maybe able to claim compensation under the Governments Criminal Injury compensation Authority scheme, known more commonly as the CICA.

The CICA set up to compensate victims of crime. Whilst no amount of money can ever compensate for the physical or emotional trauma of being assaulted the scheme, does at least provide some financial compensation that may help, if you have had to take time off work or suffered psychologically or physically.

So how can you claim and are there any rules ? and how much will I receive in compensation ?

The Scheme has a series of very strict criteria.

The claim must be submitted :-

I) within two years of the assault taking place, whilst

ii) the reporting requirements are such that evidence of the incident must be detailed in the application very carefully, for example the incident must have been reported to the Police whilst you must have retained the crime reference number. In addition, the incident must not have been your fault. The CICA will also consider Criminal Records to ensure you do not have any convictions.

If the claim meets the criteria, then the level of compensation is assessed according to the fixed tariffs set down under the CICA scheme. Compensation starts at £1,000 for modest injuries raising to over £200,000 for very serious injuries.
