The Court Funds Office is the Government Department that holds funds on behalf of someone, under a Deputyship. If a person dies and has had their affairs managed by the Court Funds Office (CFO ) then there is a specific procedure to be followed to release assets held. Firstly, the CFO will need to be informed of the persons death. An original or certified copy of the death certificate will need to be sent. Thereafter the CFO will need evidence as to who is handling the estate of the deceased person and evidence of this eg. a copy of the will or their relationship with the Deceased if he/she died Intestate.
The CFO can release monies for the payment of funeral expenses or inheritance tax.. Certain forms must be completed.
Dealing with Government departments can be time consuming and knowing exactly what form to complete and who to send it to can take time. We regularly deal with the CFO in probate matters, and if you have been told that you need probate to release funds held by the CFO we can help.
