If you are a niece or nephew and your Aunt has died – what happens when there is no will ?
The starting point is always to double check that your Aunt has not left a will. You can check with Solicitors, banks, Companies like Certainty or contact will writers. If no will exists then the estate will be subject to the Intestacy Rules.
If your Uncle is no alive and your Aunt has no Children, or surviving parents, or Brothers or Sisters, then their assets will pass to the surviving blood line nephews and nieces.
To administer the estate a legal process  known as probate must be obtained if there are assets above £15,000. The legal document than must be obtained, can be issued to any of the surviving blood relatives and is known as a Grant of letters of administration. This can be issued in any one of the surviving nephews and nieces.
