If you are unfortunate to be involved in a road traffic accident with a hit and run driver what can you do ? Here are five top tips :-
1. Immediately report the matter to the police – they will provide a crime reference number which you will need if you are to claim. The Motor Insurance Bureau ( see below ) are very strict and will always ask for a crime reference number.
2.Report the accident to your Insurer – they will want to know full details of the accident and whether anyone is injured. If insured Comprehensive they will arrange the repairs to your car.
3. Keep a detailed account of the accident, and write down the type of car and model even if you don’t have the registration. Also take photos of the accident damage.
4. If you are injured go to the A&E or GP – this is important as the Motor Insurance Bureau ( MIB ) will ask for confirmation of this if you are to claim.
5. Keep a detailed note of all your losses – the MIB rules state that all losses must be kept to a minimum.
Fortunately, even though the other driver may have left the scene, this doesn’t mean that you cant claim. The Motor Insurance Bureau, can provide compensation for your injuries and resulting losses.
